Basilica di San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini

Roma Capitale records that Leo X held a competition for the church in 1518, entered by Raphael, Michelangelo and Peruzzi among others, and that Jacopo Sansovino's project won; the interior was completed only in 1620, through Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, Giacomo Della Porta and Carlo Maderno, who worked here in 1614 and raised the elongated dome the Romans call il confetto succhiato. The travertine facade with six Florentine saints is Alessandro Galilei's, 1734, under Clement XII, and the church was restored in 1992.
